Uwe Pilz is absolutely right. But to go into more details, look at the definition of stream lines. It says that tangent on any point of stream line gives the direction of velocity (i.e. Flow). So flow direction will be tangential to stream line so no flow normal to it. Like this (for said criteria) we defined the stream function. This stream function is used to draw stream line in our CFD package. Any single stream line has constant value of stream function.
