Hi everyone, I am spending my time learning turbulence modelling using various resources such as Pope, Wilcox, Davidson and a few others from the Springer series. One common subject is the introduction of the Kolmogorov time scale, . From my understanding it is the smallest time scale, which in turn is the equivalent turnover time before the smallest eddy dissipates into heat. If my previous statement is true, does it play a role in numerical schemes? For example the CFL number?

the CFL number is based on the numerical time step while the Kolomogorov time scale is based on physical considerations. The link is that if you have dt_num/dt_K = O(1) you are resolving in time in a DNS-like approach, otherwise you are filtering out the small time scales. |
