I am joining a futures trading company in the city,I will be basically dealing with short term interest rate spread. As a person with no experience in trading and who really wants to do great in trading, what should I know in terms of software or general knowledge ( Books or articles)that would give me a hedge (a back-up) and speed me up before the training commence on.

given this chance input from Bazaire, I am interested to find out if its true that a good CFD guy can make a lot more money in the city than by working in the trade? Is it still an alternative for CFD guys or was it a one-off.

Anybody any ideas?

So what method is best suited for analysing the short term interest spread?

Given that it is a company controlled by the goverment then I suggest a method that do not care too much about conservation of funds. Leaks are about to happen anyway.

Otherwise it's up to you, but the name of the company suggests that company policy might dictate a tight control of the transient differentials.

About short term interest spread, then central differencing might be used for the bulk of the interest. That way you might get the right spread or wiggles in the final result.

Thanks for your input but this was not exactly what I was looking for.

I was more interested in the fact that some CFD scientists/engineers seem to be willing to trade their engineering background in for a bit more money without much prospects of ever getting back into engineering again.

The important question is, would anybody hire them again once they have worked in the city predicting the short term interest spread using a central differencing scheme?
