Problems about fluid-structure interaction

I am solving a fluid-structure interaction problems, in which fluid has different density as solid. This problem is a little bit same as multiphase flow problem. The code turns to be unstable when density ratio reaches up to 100. I am wonder whether the conservative form of governing equation is better than the non-conservative one?
