Dear Peyman,

Depends. In some critical areas of high flow field gradients you may want ideally to aim for an aspect ratio of 1. On the other hand in other regions and depending on the solver you are using, you could accept aspect ratios as high as 5000.

A mesh dependency study is important to know what should be used in your case or best practices on your type of application, if available.

Best regards,
Colinda

Do no of cells and no of elements of a mesh mean the same?
I am quite a beginner to icem cfd and in the process of learning the mesh independence study.. Will be very grateful for your answers
thank you

Hi, I want to know that how to reduce the maximum aspect ratio if you have very minimal flow rate of gas and what should be the best minimum and maximum aspect ratio range?

Hi,

The optimal is an aspect ratio of 1. But this is in most cases hard to obtain without exploding the number of grid points. The maximum aspect ratio the solver can deal with depends on the solver you are using. Often guidelines are provided for each solver in its documentation. The method to reduce the maximum aspect ratio depends on the meshing technique being used. For example in a structured grid increasing the number of grid points as well as their distribution (clustering) may help to reduce the maximum aspect ratio.
