Hi all, Does anyone have any paper that addresses the Implementation of Immersed Boundary Method in OpenFOAM?

I would really appreciate your assistance in this regard.

Hi all,

I am a beginner with OpenFOAM.

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to implement Immersed Boundary Method/Condition in OpenFOAM to solve for structural problem in Fluid-Structure Interaction?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Hi Elvis, yes I need more information about the Masters thesis. The English version would be more helpful.

The link gave me only 1 page publication.

Anyone who have implemented IMB in OpenFOAM, please share your views with me.

Hi,

Check openFOAM 7th workshop:
http://openfoam-extend.sourceforge.n...7_Program.html

Slides and materials are all in there.
I hope it helps.

Hi,

What kind of application you are interested in with the IBM ?

By the way, it will more interesting to try to move in the immersed body inside the fluid region. (Immersed Body Dynamics).

Hi T.D,
I am interested in simulating particle in fluid flows; at first for stagnant particles i.e packedBeds and later on I intend to use also for moving particles (Immersed Body Dynamics). Do you have any experience of simulating such flows? I will be thankful for your kind suggestion/recommendation in this regards

Yes, i have an experience in suspensions flows of rigid particles. What volume fractions you are up to in both cases (dynamic stagnant) ? shapes are spherical ? 2D, 3D ?

Hi T.D,
For stagnant case, actually I am interested to simulate packedBed (volume fraction of particles ~ 0.56) reactor with heat transfer. The particles are spherical and would like to simulate 3D case. For dynamic case, 3D with relatively smaller volume fraction (~0.3).

Hi, For small volume fraction it is ok. But for a high value like 0.56 you will be limited to the computation time. In that situation, it is better to use like meso-to-macro-scopic models, rather than DNS simulations, since you we are limited to high contact frequency number for the contacts between particles.
you can send me your email in private message, and we can discuss there.

Hi T.D,
I have sent you my email address in a private message.
Actually I am interested to simulate this high value of volume fraction for the packed bed reactor, that means there is no need to consider particle-particle interactions and the domain can be made symmetric to simulate limited number of particles. But we can discuss this issue in more detail via email.
