HI
I am just starting to learn OpenFoam and have been going through the tuts from the user guide. When I try to view the mesh for the case cavity (2.1.2 of the User Guide) I get a window which looks very different from Figure 7.1. The current window has 3 tabs labelled: General, annotate and camera instead of parameters, display and information. I had problems running paraFoam earlier (ie segmentation fault, line 57 in paraview) so I commented that entire file and finally got it to open. It's just that the windows doesn't look the way it should. SHuo |

Your paraFoam installation is not correct. Fix it or use
- foamToVTK to convert results to vtk format - paraview and load in the .vtk files |

I tried running it again and it seems that the error is because the file cavity.foam is empty. Any advice?

Hi Joey!
You're refering to the post from the 267th of March, are you? As far as I understand it the cavity.foam file is supposed to be empty. It only tells the paraview importer "In this directory you'll find OpenFOAM-data"

Why cannot you find paraview? Did you install it? What happens if you say:
which paraview Are you sure it is on the system? Hrv

Hi Margarita,
Have you read README in OpenFOAM-1.3? It seems that you have not set the environment variables. Before running paraview, you should type following command (if you're using bash) to set environment variables. ---------------------------------------------- . $HOME/OpenFOAM/OpenFOAM-1.3/.OpenFOAM-1.3/bashrc ---------------------------------------------- Anyway, I recommend you to read the README file before doing that. It seems that you did not install the third party software:
gcc, paraview and jdk Did you follow the steps I wrote for you? If you did, then you have to find in OpenFOAM/linuxAMD64 the following: home/dragosm> ls OpenFOAM/linuxAMD64/ gcc-4.1.0 j2sdk1.4.2_05 paraview-2.4.2 There you have a directory called paraview-2.4.2 which contains all the binaries for paraview.
