Hi there,

I would like to map the 3D-data of a field calculated by OpenFOAM onto a two dimensional shell-mesh
that is specified via a STL-file. The purpose for this is to compress the data for the usage in a FEM-simulation software.

The concept is to calculate the local mean or mean2prime value for each control volume defined via a triangle
of the triangulated shell mesh and the related normal vector. Therefore an interpolation of the STL-data
via 'sample' or using 'mapFields' is not appropriate. I have also considered 'swak4Foam'-Expression, but this is also not helpful.

At the moment I am thinking about modifying the sample-application for my purposes, since I already have a concept that might be working.
However I only have limited programming experience in C++ and assume a very high calculation time for large meshes.

For this reason I would appreciate a hint, whether there is any option to solve the problem.
