Default semi-Lagrangian advection method in openFoam

i wonder if any of you has any experience on implementing the semi-lagrangian advection method into openFoam. As many of you know, the semi-Lag method is widely used in weather simulation, which treats the advection of fluid as particles. please let me know if you want to explore more about this topic.
