Definition of y+ in yPlusRAS (1.7.1)

Hi Foamers. I read the old threads upon yPlusRAS utility, concluding that y+ is not based on uTau, but yes on the turb. kinetic energy. However, I am using OF 2.2.2 version. Please, someone can tell me if this utility was updated? Is still yplus based on the turb. kinetic energy?

I took a look inside yPlusRAS.C however I cannot figure out it.

I am working with k-e turbulent model in openfoam and I have a question related to near wall distance calculation.

OpenFoam has two functions nearWallDist and nearWallDistNoSearch to calculate the near wall distance. nearWallDistNoSearch directly calculates the normal distance from cell center to face center. I am not able to understand what exactly does nearWallDist do? Why do we use the nearWallDist instead of nearWallDistNoSearch? I tried to look at the nearWallDist function and I understand that it does a search of pointNeighbours of given face and calculates the minimum distance. What is the concept behind this approach? Why is it necessary?
