LWhitson2 is on a distinguished road
I am still a little new to OpenFOAM and am having a problem calculating some turbulence statistics. What I am interested in is the Mean and Standard Deviation of the scalar values of a 100ms simulation. In doing the calculation, I am using the k-e turbulence model and starting with an an already "converged" solution, ie it should be at steady state for the most part. The flow is of a reacting jet flowing into quescent air.

It was my understanding that reactingFoam is an unsteady RANS solver, so I set up a fieldAverage of the scalars to calculate the Mean and Prime2Mean values. If I am not mistaken, Prime2Mean is simply the square of the standard deviation. When the calculation was complete, I got a Prime2Mean value very close to 0 which I believe means that the average flow and the instantaneous flow are the same at all points in time, which I know is not true.

Can anyone shine some light on to what I may have done incorrectly? Is there a better way to do this that I am not aware of?

Thanks,
Bryce
