I would like to model the following case - room with internally placed ventilator. The ventilator causes known pressure drop and drives the fluid within the domain. Inlet is modeled only because of mass conservation ("what goes out should come in") - therefore I think zero gradients at inlet at outlet should be "satisfying" boundary conditions.

What concerns me more is how to set up the case with internal region (ventilator). Since the walls of ventilator are rather thin, I would like to be able to model walls as "thin regions" (maybe surface boundary region is more appropriate) and be able to prescribe the pressure drop (due to presence of ventilator) for this region.

Could anyone, please let me know if this is (and how) possible (with OpenFoam-1.5)?

Thanks!

Consider the use of the fan boundary condition. This involves turning a set of internal faces into a cyclic boundary condition.

Take a look at Fan type BC in OF15
