Ah I have just found out how.
You need double quotes as:

boundaryField
{
"car_.*"
{
type zeroGradient;
}
}

Use of regular expressions for patch names in boundary conditions

Hi,

I would like to use regular expressions to define the boundary conditions on a set of patches. Does anyone know if this possible in OpenFOAM 1.6 ?

I have tried:

...
