I checked again with the version 2.0.x of OpenFOAM : it still does not work. With parallel meshing however one can build up relatively large meshes, with 100 millions number of mesh cells...

I am trying to build up a mesh of about 600 millions of cells (3396*3396*50) and when I run blockMesh I get the following error :
