I have just pushed a development to the curvature calculation and alphaContactAngle BCs into OpenFOAM-1.7.x which may help you. See the git log for details.

If you could work out what such a correction should be then it would be possible to work out what the gradient BC on alpha1 should be and then the snGrad(alpha1) would be correct wherever it is used....

is not equivalent to

fvc::snGrad(alpha1)*mesh.magSf()

even in the bulk and the difference is important for numerical stability. ...
