I agree with Tobi. I understood your original problem as that the volume integral of alpha1 is reducing (i.e. you are losing mass), but now I realized you meant that your maximum value is reducing...

You don't give a lot of info, but try using...

You don't give a lot of info, but try using explicit MULES for alpha1. Use a bounded divergence scheme and first order Euler.
