Boundary Layer Thickness
Radius implies radius of the duct through which fluid is flowing. The concept of boundary layer does not exist in undergrad texts. Analytical solution is usually based on similarity analysis and you...

Theory
Just pick up any fluid dynamics book that explains boundary layer and you will understand. For a laminar flow through a duct, the thickness of boundary layer is equal to radius while the thickness of...

Laminar Flow
You mentioned that the flow is laminar. Then the gradient cannot be high. High gradient implies turbulent flow. So, if the flow is really laminar and single-phase, you do not require any inflation...

Laminar Film
If you are modeling two-phase flow using multiphase model then you need to ensure that you have at least 4-6 layers within the thin film thickness that you expect for the liquid phase. If the...

Mesh Control
You can give sizes to the face, to the edges, even to the bodies. For all of these, there are various ways, such as, you can directly specify number of nodes on edge; for faces and bodies you can...

Inflation
You can certainly use inflation on the adjacent walls and the results as per that actually look good in your mesh. You are worried too much about the mesh quality. As long as you get skewness less...

Boundary Layer Mesh
The inflation layer look as it should be if you have inflation on two adjacent boundaries. And you are using a lot of layers. Usually, 20 is more than enough.

Mesh
I am sorry, did you attach an image of mesh? I couldn't see any. Inflation has to match with the edge sizing. Hence, if you are observing a jump in the inflation, you need to change edge sizing.

Meshing Software
The choice of meshing tool is only based on one thing; user's comfort, until and unless the objective is only to learn a tool. So, use a tool that you are comfortable with. ICEMCFD and Fluent Meshing...

Mesh Cells
Fluent Meshing cannot generate structured hex cells, however, newer versions do have other options, such as, hex core, poly hex-core, cutcell, polyhedral, etc.
