Hi everyone,

I have worked to achieve my project by using fluent but I have to switch to star ccm+. I use LES to solve two phase air-water flow.
I understood that converting from tetrahedral to polyhedral will decrease the skewness and improve the meshing quality.

My question can I switch to polyhedral from tetrahedral which I used it in the fluent file? does that effect the geometry or need to create computational domain by star ccm instead that used in fluent?

Thanks for all.

You're better off recreating the geometry (or importing it) and mesh in Star-CCM+. Especially if you have a simple geometry, you can very quickly get started.

thanks Lane very much for your reply, I appreciate your effort and your cooperation.
Just to let you know that I create my geometry which is simple but I need to refine certain volume through cubic volume that I failed to achive it by star ccm so I switched to ICEM instead to create this geometry and refine the mesh.

my question is can I import the icem file before meshing to star ccm or as some people advice me I have meshing it by ICEM and Create FLUENT file then import it to star ccm?

Thanks so much Lane.

arjun will become famous soon enougharjun will become famous soon enough
export in fluent 6 format

and import 'volume mesh' in ccm

I'd recommend just importing your geometry (surface mesh -> parasolid, iges, etc) and meshing internally using Star-CCM+. I think volumetric controls would achieve this wouldn't knowing anything of your geometry.

Personal preference matters. Importing isn't a problem, so use whatever you like. I prefer the ICEM mesher over the Star-CCM mesher any day. Star's meshing algorithm went on a fork early in its history and tends to produce 'ugly' meshes. The way it retracts prism layers is such a huge annoyance. It also likes to throw all the skewed cells right at the prism layer and core mesh interface, the worst place to put them.
