Dear CD-Adapco users,

A month ago, I started using CD-adapco STAR-CCM+ and after running some very simple models, I now try to to mesh one side (due to symmetry) of a car. Eventually I probably need around 20-30 Million polyhedral cells (lots of details).
However, when trying to volume mesh, not much happens after hitting the 6 Million cells mark.
My laptop is a decent workstation (HP 8560w) with 12GB RAM. I read somewhere that you need around 2GB RAM per 1 Million polyhedral cells, but that seems to me like a massive requirement. Then I would need a 64GB RAM workstation, which seems strange to me. Especially, since my laptop can easily mesh a 30-40 Million cell case in for instance Pointwise (tetrahedral mesh).

Is this 2GB per 1 Million cells requirement really true? Otherwise I will have to find me a new program, while I really like STAR-CCM+.

Thanks!
