Hello,

I'm simulation a compressible pipeflow between two high pressured tanks and there is a leakage in the middle of the pipe and I know nothing about the form of the leakage section but the pressure drop (dp/dt).
So is there any way to simulate that leakage?

it seems to me that you will have two sources of pressure drop in the pipe - from friction and the hole and I hope you know the mass flow from tank to tank
so if the tank to pipe junctions and the pipe are modelled well then the only unknown is the hole area and its shape
by assuming a simple circular hole you could run a series of cases with different diameter holes and home in on the size that gives the correct pressure drop between the tanks

Thanks for your answer!

Yes I know the mass flow and the surface of the section but I have no idea of what the form is but anyway the section is very small (2.4e-03 mm2) so that would be very hard I think to mesh the local. I've heard of a kind of a cell that you can put into the place and it will play the role of a sink.

creating small cells of that size is not a problem - just use a volume control and slow growth and have at least say 10 cells across the opening and a volume of cells on the outside to exhaust into with a pressure boundary condition at some distance away

if you add the hole and outer volume in 3d-cad you can then easily change the shape of the hole if you want to explore other geometries
