The Opportunity

The Computational Mechanics Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and 

Aerospace Engineering is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified and 

enthusiastic Research Fellow to work as part of a highly motivated team located 

at Clayton campus. As the Research Fellow, you will be involved in continuing 

to build the department's reputation for excellence in research.

Additionally, you will:

•	have a PhD qualification from a recognised university in the field of 

mechanical or ocean engineering with significant experience in computational 

fluid dynamics modelling (ideally using Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics)

•	have a good knowledge of programming in a high level language such as 

Fortran90, C or C++

•	collaborate with experimental and modelling colleagues at other 

laboratories including CSIRO (Australia) and IITB (India)

•	conduct outstanding research and produce high-quality research outcomes

•	take an active role in maintaining research innovation in the group

•	contribute to the supervision of Final Year Project and Postgraduate 

students where applicable.

to make a good impression on other research staff will be essential to your

be negotiated.

The position is expected to be taken up no later than September 2014.

Appointment will be made at a level appropriate to the successful applicant's 

qualifications, experience and in accordance with classification standards for
