mesh.jpgSo I created a mesh for a 2D airfoil which can be seen in the attached photo. I did this roughly following the 3 part hex mesh tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EknKVAJGEJ8 When I update the project it gives me a warning that says "Warning : Mesh has 79 uncovered faces." I do not have any idea what this means or how to fix it. I think it may be something wrong with the trailing edge. When I try to export this to fluent it opens up, but then fluent has an error reading: Building...I'm not sure if the uncovered faces from the mesh is the problem or what. I have linked the project file in the db below. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Let me know if any other information is needed. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rjw23phn5...1hDoHnZHa?dl=0 Last edited by bahkins313; November 4, 2014 at 12:33. Reason: added photos |

Luke, you need to join the "_files" folder with the .wbpj otherwise one can't open your project.
Regarding the uncovered faces, you need to go in ICEM>edit mesh>check mesh> check and fix uncovered faces (please refer to this post). And don't forget to turn off the VORFN. |

Okay I posted a google doc of all of the files that should be needed.
https://drive.google.com/folderview?...1U&usp=sharing I have tried the check mesh fix uncovered faces a few times but it did not seem to help. I will try again though EDIT: tried the fix mesh again with no luck. still getting the same errors |

Well you have negative elements near your trailing edge. You didn't use a proper blocking strategy as discussed in this topic and your mesh doesn't fit to your airfoil.

Could you help me understand what having a negative element means? In that topic you suggested I follow the tutorial and I did.

Well negative element can be caused by various factors, but mainly due to bad association. Consider a simple hex element with 4 vertices (corner). Considering the edges, you have the pairs 1-2, 1-3; 2-4; 4-3. Suppose that, without a proper association the vertices 1 and 2 permute, as the edge pairs remain the same, then you create a "negative" volume (see attachment for illustration).
I would recommend that you go trough various tutorials to understand the different blocking strategies for a 2D airfoil (sharp / rounded trailing edge with low / high curvature). |
