I have a great great problem to make a prism layer. Some one could me the exact sequence to make a prismatic mesh, please?

Sto facendo il PhD al KTH e sto lavorando su aneurismi...anche la geometria è complessa il prism layer viene perfetto...tranquillo che si risolve...

ANSYS have lots of meshing products! The procedure depends on what mesh software you are using. So: If you want help, you need to say what mesh software you are using!!

Two other points:

- The help documentation does describe this.

- Experiment on a really simple geometry to begin with!

Ok...let's do it...

To create a prism layer: go to Mesh ---> Global Mesh Setup ---> Global mesh parameters and choose the 4th icon from left...than choose the parameter that u want...normally I put: Growth Law: exponential Height Ratio: 1.2 Number of layers: 10 Total height: 2, then click on compute parameters, press apply. Then go to Compute mesh --> Prism Mesh --> Select mesh: existing mesh. Click on select parts for prism layer...u have to choose the surface on what u want the prism layer...eg in a duct select the surface on the duct... Hope is clear...

Thank you for your answer,but what you described is just the standard procedure to construct prisms layers. The problem it that for complex geometry it is common to have problems when prisms layers are generated: cells occupying the same volume, misoriented faces, an so on. I was wondering if you have some general advises to work around this, since you said that even with complex geometry you have been able to obtain prisms.

Normally with a good setup you can generate directly a perfect prism layer...but if u have problem, try to correct the mesh with edit mesh...normally is working quite good. In general I find problem if I refine the mesh manually, but if u create regions and use this regions to obtain different mesh densities u should obtain a perfect result...

If you have troubles with prism layer try to generate only one 'big' layer and after that split it in how many layers you need (you can also choose the aspect ratio) and of course the number of layers. You can also define the initial high and the growth law.
