Hi,

We are looking at an HP Workstation for CFX and Ansys FE. What would be the best processor configuration for this. Right now we are looking at a quad core Xeon Processor with 16 GB RAM. Would a configuration of two dual core Xeon processors be better. We currently have an academic version of Ansys which I think does not support multiple threads. Please advice...

Hi,

Academic licenses are much cheaper than commercial licenses so that changes the equation somewhat. You should do the numbers to check based on the cost/performance you are quoted, but I would expect your optimum would be a cluster of mid-range workstations and parallel licenses for CFX. For ANSYS FE the best way is to have a single large machine with fast CPU, LOTS of memory (all you can afford) and a fast hard drive (RAID array).

There are some recommendations for ANSYS FE machines on a white paper in the CFX Community page.
