In the new Fluent Beta Version it is possible to read in a profile file with roughness parameters for specifying the wall boundary conditions. I am not sure how to create this file. Has anyone done that yet and/or can help me? Thanks

I dont' have that beta version of fluent but I guess you can export from fluent a profile file similar to the one you want to create.

After that look at the structure of the exported file with a simple ASCII editor (e.g. notepad) and try reproduce the same structure to a new file containing the roughness parameters you want to assign.

Fluent should be able to import the file with the changed parameters.

To make the procedure easier you can use different softwares like explorer, 123, mathcad, mathlab or others

Grazie mille, Giorgio It looks like this is the only possible way. It is quite time consuming with this big, complex surface I am working with, but it seems to work. Thanks again Tarnz

Di niente Tarnz. I think you can find in the fluent website an usefull tutorial in which is used an udf that build your profile of bc in a easier way. I didn't use that udf but a student in my uni did it for a VOF model (air over water).

it will speed-up the implementation of your cases but it wont affect the numerical results

regards,

giorgio

ps: at the moment i'm working on flow over complex terrains so it would be nice to compare some results. Don't esitate to contact me whenever you want
