When simulating supersonic turbulent flows (ie.axisymmetric supersonic impinging jet) is it satisfactory to model it using a 2-dimensional solver. Many of the papers I have read in this field have used 2D RANS and LES to simulate supersonic impinging jets. Is it a lot of work going from 2D to 3D? How mucj deos the computational time increase by?
