Hello,
I have a (probably) simple problem: - A wing swept back with 45 degree - A constant wing section NACA 64A810 normal to the 1/4 chords line There is any simple formula or program to recover the wing section parallel with the symmetry plane ? I was thinking to create a "cylinder" using the NACA section and intersect this with a plane at 45 degree, the intersection curve should be my searched airfoil. Any other suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Do |

Using CATIA, you can do that.
Especially if you know the parameters of the wing, you can make a very parametric design in CATIA. (span, chord, AR, taper, twist, etc.) This way, you can modify your wing whenever you want with only changing the parameter. For your problem: Open the file in CATIA (if your wing is compatible with CATIA) Make a plane 45 deg to the symmetry plane. İntersect the wing with that plane. Here you got your airfoil shape. Turn that shape 45 deg to make it parallel to symmetry plane. Sweep that shape with 2 reference curves (leading and trailing edge - you must draw this lines - span, chord, taper, sweep, etc. should be known) Choose axis perpendicular to the symettry plane for your "spine" Here you got a wing with airfoil parallel to the sym plane. You can PM me for details. Burak |

Thanks,
however I've solved the problem in two ways: 1. I've used a parametric model of my wing in Rhinoceros (a demo version). 2. I've found an exact analytical solution to my problem tested with the intersection curve obtained at 1. Funny what you can achieve if you use your old course in analytical and descriptive geometry, I've spend a day doing this but I think it was time well spent. I suppose a Catia license has a stellar price for a normal person. Do |

CATIA is not cheap, you are right. I am using CATIA at work.
If your problem is solved, than there is no need to CATIA |
