can anybody explain how good is the 1D simulation softwares compared to 3D.

what all can be done with the 1D simulation softwares wrt to an ENGINE ?

This is a fairly common question. In a nutshell, 3D simulation is best for determining the optimum design characteristics for individual components, where 1D is best-suited for optimizing the design of an entire fluid system.

In the instance of an engine (cooling system), you would use 3D to design / optimize the pump, coolers, etc. You would then take the performance characteristics of the components and use them within a 1D simulation of the entire system.

In a nutshell, 3D helps you design components while 1D enables you determine effects of various design changes and operating conditions across the entire system.
