7. run paraFoam and check the mesh
8. run checkMesh -constant
9. if everything checks out, rename 0.org back to 0
10. set your boundary conditions
a. open constant/polyMesh/boundary, to see what boundaries need to be set
b. open each file under 0 and edit it, so that the correct boundary names and conditions are set

Thanks kaskade.....
Actually I am still unable to run the case because of boundary conditions......there are number of faces and points generated after meshing.....and I am unable to locate the sequence of these faces and because of which I am unable to assign boundary conditions.......is it necessary to give start face?....can you please guide on this...

Apart from the type-entries you don't have to (read: should not) edit the boundary-file manually. The startFace und nFaces entries should be fine after the mesh conversion.

Thanks Kaskade

When I am running case after editing the files in 0 directory as per boundary ......I am getting following error.....

That file should exist if you copied the damBreak-Tutorial.

kaskade,

Names of boundaries in boundary.org file and boundary file are different......which file should I refer......should I keep both files (boundary and boundary.org) in constant directory before running the case....

The boundary.org only serves as reference for you in case you need to lookup which boundary types have been used in the original tutorial. OpenFOAM doesn't use the file due to the .org (short for original).

The boundaries in constant/polyMesh/boundary (without org) are the ones for which the BCs need to be set under 0/.

Thanks Kaskade.....

Now it is showing following error after running case using interFoam.....

Create time

fileName::stripInvalid() called for invalid fileName UbuntuOne
For debug level (= 2) > 1 this is considered fatal
Aborted (core dumped)

Hi

Please follow this way: workbench Mesh: tool - option - meshing- export - ansys fluent - format of input file - ascii

It does work

Just let me know if you still got problem

Hey guys im trying to import a 2D mesh from ICEM to OF

I have tried to import it couple of times no errors but this problem !!!

I have Inlet,top,bottom,curv1,curv2,outlet a total of 6 patches made in icem and I assigned the boundary condition

But when i import it into openFOAM I am getting only 4 patches Curv1, top, outlet and frontandback (automatic patch)

Can you please help me with this problem,

Thanks for your reply,

Hasan K.J

I have used fluentMeshToFoam command to import,
I have save it in ANSYS Fluent format,
It is just a simple C-mesh with the C as inlet top as wall bottom as wall and outlet as outflow and the curv1 and curve as wall.

when import it in open foam only 4 patches come I have no idea why tried it many times

How does the mesh look in Paraview? OpenFOAM handles 2D calculations in the form of a 3D Mesh with one cell thickness. Maybe that's the problem.

fluentMeshToFoam automatically handles 2d meshes by one-cell extrusion along the third direction (infact frontandback patch is created).

my advice is to check in ICEM whether the mesh is correctly associated with the geometry or not.
Maybe "curv2" and "inlet" do not contain mesh elements whatsoever and consequently they are ignored in the conversion process.

Actually the mesh looks fine in Paraview and yeah the frontandback was created by itself giving it the thickenss
I have attached the pictures here but the top patch appears in middle of the geometry

I will recheck the association like you said might be an association issue, I will recreate the entire mesh!!
