Hello
Using the converter ideasUnvToFoam for a mesh generated using Salome, I receive the message, "Found 116 undefined faces in mesh; adding to default patch." I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to view and/or identify exactly which faces in the mesh the converter thinks are undefined? Is there a way to use Paraview (or the paraFoam command) or Salome or other software to view the mesh and identify the faces causing this problem? Or is there a way to identify the faces by inspecting the .unv file?

I realize this problem of undefined faces has been discussed on the forums before, but I haven't seen anything about identifying the problem causing faces.

Thanks very much.
Richard

i guess you can see it in the paraview by including cellSet or zoneSets

Hi Nimasam
Thank you for your suggestions. I tried this and indeed, I can see the undefined cells in the mesh. For me, there is still a problem though. Even though I can see them, there are too many to just remember or write them down. I don't know of a way to go back to the original meshing in Salome and identify them in that software.

Fortunately, I came across another post where the person has written some python code that converts the Salome mesh directly into the polyMesh files required in OF. The nice thing is that if the code finds undefined faces in the mesh during the conversion process, it creates a new group in Salome containing those faces. Then you can see those faces in Salome, and also combine that group with an existing group where they actually belong. I hope that's clear. I don't know if his code will work in every case, but for me in this particular case, it did. Of course, I still don't know why those particular faces cause a problem in the conversion process!
Thanks again.
