When I try to run the waveFlume tutorial by Allrun, I notice that the same message appears as Zaibin mentioned. And the question is solved by the above command.
Yet the message is " The file /home/bowlderster/waves2Foam/src/bin/prepareCase.sh is not executable.", but the file is located at /waves2Foma/bin. Maybe somewhere should be revised a little, but I don't know.

After that, Another question appears as attached.
It seems something is wrong about Reading waveProperties.

I am looking for the answer.

It appears that I had not been testing on a clean svn-repository. I have now added waveProperties.input to the waveFlume tutorial.

Furthermore, I have changed the compilation process, so prepareCase.sh should automatically be made executable.

Hi,

I'm trying to simulate stokesFirst waves with a period of 1.1s and height 0.08m in a 3D tank with variable depht. I made my mesh using Gambit and used fluent3DMeshToFoam to import it with no problems, but whem i run the ./Allrun the solver waveFoam crashes.
I don't know if the error is on my mesh or in another place.

Here is the log.files from waveFoam.log and checkMesh.log:

Could someone help it this??

Hi Roberto,

The part of the log.checkMesh, which states:

    The mesh has multiple regions which are not connected by any face.
  <<Writing region information to "0/cellToRegion"
makes me suspect that something utterly wrong with the mesh. Furthermore, your patch "bottom" has the same number of faces as the number of cells, so if bottom is really the bottom of the domain, then you only have one (1) cell over the vertical. This will be the second thing to correct.

Dear Niels,

As I tested your brilliant waves2Foam, a problem on pd in 0 file or any result files (I guess it is dynamic pressure) appears when I modify sealevel in waveProperties.input to any number except 0. It means that the pd value is fixed to [rho*g* (sealevel) + calculated pd value] and depends on the sealevel I chose so that I cannot modify the sealevel to any value I want.

Besides, I re-code your setWaveField.C and set the p_[celli] = 0; however, the results of pd shows the same problem as indicated above when changing sealevel to nonzero.

So can you please help me to address this problem that modifying this model to suit any sealevel?

The interFoam solver - and conseqently waveFoam - comes with a reference level for hydrostatic pressure. To compensate for this, the dynamic pressure is finite, if the still water level is not placed at 0. Are you experiencing problems, besides the offset in pd?

You can always adjust the code to take a reference level different from zero.

That's all problem i encountered, thank you very much. And may I ask you when the waves2foam solver for foam-3.0 will be published? I appreciate that it is a very tough work for modifying original code to suit a new foam. Many thanks for your work indeed.

Hi, Neils,

I have been testing this solver for weeks and it's really powerful in generating wave. by the way, since I know there is a solver named icoFsiFoam that could deal with two-way FSI, I wonder if Wave2Foam supports FSI analysis as well? if it does, one-way FSI or two-way FSI?
if not, any hint if I wanna do something in this part.

@Manoj (and others): The guides on converting interDyMFoam to waveDyMFoam are outdated, as they do not follow the most recent structure of the source code.

@Ellen: waves2Foam does accept moving meshes, so in principle it is possible to use waves2Foam with FSI. I do not have any experience with the FSI-part, so I do not know, how much of a struggle (if any) it will be.

Hi All,

I'm currently working on implementing an encountering spectrum (where the velocity of e.g. a ship is not zero).
Therefore, I introduced the following steps:
1. In a previous step, I generated (copied from the original files, renamed and modified) stokesFirstwCurrent and stokesFirstwCurrentProperties where I introduced the vector "current" and changed eta and U accordingly. This works very well!
2. Afterwards, I generated (copied from the original files, renamed and modified) JONSWAPwCurrent, where the standard spectrum is modified to take account of encountering phenomena (by considering "current" again). Hence the frequencies and the respective amplitudes are modified. This modification works as well, as the spectrum shifts to higher frequencies and is being flattened. The area remains constant.
3. I generated (copied from the original files, renamed and modified) irregularwCurrent, where I modified the argument to take account of "current".
4. I generated (copied from the original files, renamed and modified) irregularwCurrentProperties, where I included stokesFirstwCurrentProperties.H in irregularwCurrentProperties.H.

Compilation is going well, but when setting the wave field, the current is not being considered (the velocity in the domain remains zero). I assume, that irregularwCurrentProperties isn't modified accordingly to consider the introduced vector "current". I attached all files, as well as the generated waveProperties. Does anybody have an idea how I need to change irregularwCurrentProperties to get it run?

I'd highly appreciate any comments!

Hi,
After I have read your PhD Thesis "A Full Hydro-and Morphodynamic Description of Breaker Bar Development", and some papers published in Coastal Engineering and other journals, I admire you so much. Because, my PhD Thesis is about wave scour around structures, especially in coastal surf zone related with breaking waves. So my work includes three parts, air-fluid, fluid-structure and fluid-sediment, thus, I am considering simulate this case using multiphase model (the dynamic mesh have been utilized in previous study, e.g. Xiaofeng Liu).
The wave simulation can be realized by VOF, just like the wave2Foam. Now, I want to incorporate the scour solver using Euler-Euler 2phase method based on the wave2Foam. However, i have no idea how to realize this couple calculation. I am confused about this problem for a long time and looking forward for your reply! thanks.

I used waves2Foam solver successfully and got the surfaceElevations right for waveflume case.
Then I tried to compile waveDyMFoam which worked successfully. In order to do this I recompiled waves2Foam and other softwares. Then I tried to compile the waveFlume case again. But the error below is shown in log.postProcessWaves2Foam file:

Hi Mary,

All I can see is that you are interpolating in a list, which begins at larger time that it ends, so the interpolation routine does not know what to do.

Either you have a simulation with waveDyMFoam, which crashed, or you are suffering from the issue with wave probes on moving meshes, which for some reason does not work in certain cases (or on more recent platforms?). This has been discussed several times above, but I am unaware of a solution.

I am trying to compile waves2foam with OpenFOAM 2.3. I downloaded the latest version. It compiles the waves2foam without any error. But when I modify interDyMFoam -> waveDyMFoam and compile it I get the following error:
