After fresh install of 2.2.0 I noticed there is no bubbleFoam solver.
See below the differences between the 2.1.1 and 2.2.0 installs. Is it a problem on my end or with the distro? Can someone confirm? Thanks! /opt$ find -name bubble* ./openfoam211/applications/solvers/multiphase/bubbleFoam ./openfoam211/applications/solvers/multiphase/bubbleFoam/bubbleFoam.C ./openfoam211/platforms/linux64GccDPOpt/bin/bubbleFoam ./openfoam211/tutorials/multiphase/compressibleTwoPhaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam211/tutorials/multiphase/multiphaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam211/tutorials/multiphase/bubbleFoam ./openfoam211/tutorials/multiphase/bubbleFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam211/tutorials/multiphase/twoPhaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam220/tutorials/multiphase/compressibleTwoPhaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam220/tutorials/multiphase/multiphaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn ./openfoam220/tutorials/multiphase/twoPhaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn |

Greetings Chris,
I'm guessing you haven't read the release notes: http://www.openfoam.org/version2.2.0/index.php This was part of a generalization they've made on all solvers: http://www.openfoam.org/version2.2.0/fvOptions.php In theory, we can now take advantage of several features that previously only existed for some dedicated and hard-coded solvers. Best regards, Bruno

Thanks Bruno,
I had read through these, however I'm not sure I understand. How does bubbleFoam get replace by more general cases? Is the new method to use fvOptions with something like twoPhaseEulerFoam and include semiImplicitSource/codedSource for Drag/Lift/Virtual Mass source terms? Thanks, Chris |

Hi Chris,
Sorry about that, I didn't look with enough attention into this... I simply looked at the question and it seemed all too similar to recent questions on the same topic: "where did X solver go?" You seem to be already well ahead of me on this one... nonetheless, a quick search lead me to this very detailed page: http://openfoamwiki.net/index.php/BubbleFoam My first instinct is to run the "./multiphase/twoPhaseEulerFoam/bubbleColumn" tutorials in both 2.1.x and 2.2.x, as well as comparing the results with "./multiphase/bubbleFoam/bubbleColumn" from 2.1.x. If there was no conclusion from the results, then the next steps for me would be:
And that's all I know Good luck! Best regards, Bruno PS: I've taken the liberty to move this thread from the "OpenFOAM Installation" sub-forum to the main "OpenFOAM" forum, given that this isn't a specific installation problem

Just to close this thread.
bubbleFoam is dropped in favour of twoPhaseEulerFoam for OF 2.2.0. |
