I have installed from source Mesa-10.1.3, QT-4.8.6, and ParaView-4.1.0, on a cluster which is accessed using password-less ssh connections. I can ssh between the nodes and that all seems to be fine.

When I start the pvserver (on the login node only, to try and simplify matters, although the same happens with the working nodes of the cluster, the connection is just a bit messier so I might be also getting that wrong), I use

 $>> pvserver --use-offscreen-rendering

and get output like this:

When I, on my local workstation, start paraview, and connect using the gui to the tombo-login3.oist.jp:11111, the local client complains about losing a connection, and a broken pipe, whilst the server prints:

I'm unsure where I've gone wrong (although I suspect it might be in the compilation of either QT or Mesa).

If anyone could advise, I'd very much appreciate it.
