In fluid dynamics, a continuity equation is an equation of conservation of matter. Its differential form is

${\partial \rho \over \partial t} + \nabla \cdot (\rho \mathbf{u}) = 0$

where $\rho$ is density, t is time, and u is fluid velocity.
