Hello everybody
I need to replicate for my thesis an hybrid mesh of a bluff body using ICEM 13. I attached some pictures of the original mesh. What is the best way? thanks in advance |

the person before you created a box around your bluff body. he blocked the geometry. then he generated an unstructured mesh for the outside box. and merged them together. look in the forum for merging structured and unstructured mesh.

how have you understood that is related to automotive? :S impressive )) btw it's a project for the Sauber team. They want to study the flow within the diffuser of a F1 car. I started yesterday to work with ICEM, it's quite tricky :S I am trying to build a structured mesh around the body. But I don't understand if the blocks have to cover the whole body, how many blocks I have to use and how to create a block around the sideplate...

Actually i guessed it due to two reasons: distance from lower boundary and shape.
Either you can follow the full hexa mesh method http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...mesh-legs.html or look for thread in this forum on hybrid mesh (Diamondx has done the wonderful job in this area, look for hi threads) |

Thanks a lot for the video!! it's very helpfull. However I have a dummie question...the software will create the mesh only inside the blocks?? I mean, in my model I have to avoid any blocks inside the body?? Thanks

Ok I understand. In my case I don't want to mesh inside the body and I associate the blocks inside the body with the solid part. After that before to compute the mesh I deselect the solid part. is it the right way??

Yes. You have two options either you make it solid (and uncheck it when making mesh) or delete it. I usually prefer the first approach.
Another advantage of having solid is when you want to make the o-grid around the vehicle. In this case you just select the solid and make the o-grid around it. |

Ok I used o-grid to split the blocks around the body and it worked well well thx. btw I have a further problem, I wan't to improve the mesh in the junction between the ramp and the side-plate of the diffuser (red circle). I would like to use unstructured mesh for the red triangle block but I don't understand how I can do it.

ok thx for the link. however I'd like to know if it's possible juest to select a block and impose to use different elements

in order to replicate the solution in the red circle how can I do? I don't understand if I have to modify the block associated to the fluid or the block associated to the solid.

I can't still solve the problem of the elements in the corner of the side plate. I tried with Y-block but it doesn't solve the problem. I uploaded 2 pictures, one of the blocks and one of the mesh. Can you give me some suggestions?? thanks
