Meshing for Car Passenger Cabin

Hey guys,
I have an urgent problem for my thesis. This will be a bit long, but please take a moment to read it. Cheers! So basically I'm trying to analyse the interior airflow for a car passenger cabin. I had no problem with an empty problem, the model was drawn in CATIA and i used a "Close Surface" option to make it a solid. After successfully modelling an empty cabin, I wanted to put some chairs and steering rack into the model. I did this again and tried "Close Surface" again. This time, when I tried meshing, it turned out that I was not only meshing the interior of the car (flowfield), i was also meshing the seats and steering rack. I've attached pictures to make it more clear. In the meshing picture, u can clearly see that the seat isn't treated as a "frozen solid" but instead is also meshed. I'm not sure how to make it "add frozen" as i didn't draw it in design modeller. Also please note that in the 2nd picture, u can see under "Geometry" that the model is split into 3 parts, I think this may also be a problem on top of the non-frozen solid problem. So I'm trying to get a mesh "around" the seats, so in the mesh, the seat shape will be hollow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhkH...Y&noredirect=1 I'm trying to get something like that youtube video. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Many Thanks! |

Load your model into Design Modeler first. In DM you can supress bodies via RMB in the tree structure. Maybe this is even possible in ANSYS Meshing (I only know it rarely ). Suppressed bodies will not be touched by the mesher.

hi kad,
Sorry if i didn't make it clear, I wana keep the seats there as a solid and mesh "around" it, so there should be a "hollow seat shape" in the mesh i believe. Suppressing the seat would mean just taking away the seat completely. Cheers! |

Ok, I thought the cabin body was already hollow. In DM you can subtract the seat bodies from the cabin body by doing Boolean -> Subtract.

The cabin is actually hollow, but when i click mesh, the mesh fills up the hollow space which turns into the flow field for the inlet air.
I tried boolean->subtract, but it seemed like it just suppresed the seat again : [ |
