i am trying to give swirl flow of different swirl no. like 0.4,0.8,1.4,2.7 etc using fluent 6.3. In 3d cylinder body how can i give swirl flow. suggest me procedure please....

what is the flow domain? your description is inadequate.

you can specify any number of velocities, wall shear stresses, or applying moving walls to get swirl flows. it is rather straight forward. there is nothing special about swirl, it is just velocity in a different direction and you just proceed with that in mind. If you are trying to apply swirl to a plane inlet velocity, then it is a little more difficult.

thank you for your suggestion.Flow domain is as mention in the diagram ( fig 1).
I want to give swirl velocity with axial velocity from inlet face as shown in diagram...
wts procedure for it???????

You can apply "swirl" through the velocity inlet boundary condition settings

Choose components as your velocity specification method, and use a local cylindrical coordinate system

specify your cylindrical coordinate system and then specify the angular velocity to get the swirl number you are looking for. Obviously this method only works for constant swirl. If you want varying swirl number you need to do more work.

Hii, Could you please elaborate on this.
I want to model a swirl diffuser in a room, therefore I need to add a constant swirling effect on the flat side of the cylindrical diffuser on the ceiling, so that the air can distribute in a swirling flow to the room.
I chose a velocity inlet BC at the inlet where the swirl has to be created, Please tell me what inputs I need to input to get the desired swirling effect for the diffuser.
