Following the open-source release of non-linear wave models
based on High-Order Spectral (HOS) method developed at Ecole
Centrale Nantes, LHEEA Lab. (CNRS), a training course is now
planned.
As a reminder, two different models are available:
- HOS-ocean which allows the deterministic propagation of
highly non-linear wave fields in open ocean with arbitrary
constant depth. For documentation, download... see here:
https://github.com/LHEEA/HOS-ocean/wiki
- HOS-NWT which is a Numerical Wave Tank dedicated to the
deterministic generation and propagation of highly
non-linear wave fields in wave basins. For documentation,
download... see here: https://github.com/LHEEA/HOS-NWT/wiki
Description:
Wave modeling using HOS models - HOS-ocean and HOS-NWT
Dates: Tuesday 26 and Wednesday 27 May 2015 (estimated
working hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on day 1 and 8:00 AM
to 4:00 PM on day 2).
Location: Ecole Centrale Nantes, Nantes, France
Description: This two-day course intends to enable the
participants to set up and run water wave simulations using
HOS-ocean and HOS-NWT. The course will cover the theoretical
background of wave theory (propagation, wave-maker
generation, non-linearities...) and pseudo-spectral methods.
Through relevant case studies, attendees will get hands-on
experience with both numerical models (HOS-ocean and
HOS-NWT). A specific attention will be paid to
post-processing options delivered with the codes, especially
in the context of the possible coupling between HOS
simulations and CFD code for wave-structure interactions.
All tools and models are open-source and will be made
available for the participants.
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in computer programming and
Linux environment. Knowledge about water waves, Fortran and
pseudo-spectral methods is an advantage.
Language: English
Standard fee: 1,200 euros (incl. VAT), including lunch and
refreshments. Reduced fee (400 euros) is offered to students.
Trainer: Dr Guillaume Ducrozet, Assistant professor, Ecole
