Dear all,
I have been trying to mesh this airfoil in 2D after I did the youtube tutorial a couple of times. This blade is from an automotive cooling fan. Here's the profile Here it is after the O-grid and splits Then I thought I could just collapse both edges and blocks at the tips similar to the sharp trailing edge from the tutorial. I did and I'm getting this.. From the last picture, the 2 airfoil sides merge to one after I collapse both blocks at the edges.. Am I missing something or is what I am trying to do fundamentally wrong? I would appreciate some help.. Thanks, T |

Hello catthan,
-basically you can go for any profile around the airfoil and split it to generate the mesh what are your objectives? |

You need quarter O-grid
See these threads: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...ic-trough.html http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...w-winglet.html http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...ler-blade.html http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...tices-why.html http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92vScop7b8Q Also try simple approach: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/ans...ned-plate.html |

Ok guys, managed to mesh the airfoil successfully. The approach from the trough thread was the most applicable.
I looked at quarter o-grids and y-grids, however it wouldn't let me create them in 2D. Well, probably with a few smart splits I could have made a smth similar but anyway,, I'm sure I'll find this approach useful once I move on to 3D modelling. Thanks to all! Best, |

However quarter ogrid can be used for 2d or 3d |
