Hi CFD enthusiasts, experts and beginners,
This problem has been causing me to lose sleep for the past 2 weeks and I hope you guys can help me solve it. By the way, a glorious Sunday to all of you!

Project:
I am working on the wind flow over a complex terrain. I have the X Y Z coordinates.

Methodology so far:
-I imported the X Y Z coordinates into Matlab, created a triangular irregular network using the delaunay function and exported the surface as an STL file.

-I then imported it to AutoCAD to do some trimming of parts I did not want, etc. This is what it looks like.

- I then imported part of the geometry into ICEM and it gave me the following distressing view.

As you can see, there are holes everywhere. Building topology will not help at all.

- I then imported the STL file into ICEM and built topology but again nothing worked as it resulted in lots of holes on the surface.

Can anybody offer any help/advice?

Thanks
David

You could try Netgen: it's capable of creating a healthy surface mesh/checking if the one you have is healthy.

Also, Autocad can export in other formats that gambit can handle, so maybe you should try those (like ACIS, but there may be a better option).

edit: ups, now I see you were asking for ICEM, not Gambit, but I it should be the same.

diamondx will become famous soon enough
I know it may sound stupid again, did you right-click on surfaces, and check FULL. holes may appears if the surfaces are shown as simpler...

Reducing the triangulation tolerance at Settings -> Model/Units might also make the graphics look better. Just add a zero after the dot to the number used.
