Question the surface that flow can be inlet

I want to make a surface that flow can be inlet to boundary of it. but i cant build it. please help me to create it.

Try imprinting a face through the extrude command, i think by default it is add material, there are other options like imprinting, that is what you need. then you can select that face and make it an inlet
