Default Hex cells in mesh density

Hi everyone, I'm attempting to mesh an external flow case (aircraft) where a density refinement is made to capture/model a wing wake (please see picture).

However, ICEM fills this density region with tet cells whereas I would like to have hex cells instead. The spatial resolution of the density region is 0.07m in cell edge length. For tets, I created the density for size of 0.07m and ratio of 1.2. However like I mentioned, this gives me tet cells.

Could someone please enlighten me on how to accomplish this but with hex cells of the same edge length (0.07m) instead?

I should add that I followed the steps from the wingbody and helicopter tutorials to create this mesh.

Your help means a lot to me. Thank you in advance!

you can change tet to hexcore. Use option 12-1 option in edit mesh.

Thanks for replying Sijal,

Under tetra to hexa, it gives me the option via a drop down menu to select which elements I would like to convert. However, I would like to only convert the cells in the density region but the available options are only parts where none of which is the density. Could you clarify this please?

Thanks again.

I am talking about this option. You can customize selection.

Yes, I'm aware of the option but what I am referring to is that I can't seem to select only the tets in the density region (orange in my pic). As you can see there is no option for me to select my density, neither can I select it from the screen. The entire volume mesh is made out of tets, by the way.

In your case you're converting the entire sphere, which I believe you selected it from the 'Select Parts' window?

Thank you for your patience.

you can define a material point for your density box and convert only in that area.
