Dear All,
I want to buy a new computer, where my simulations run faster then in my current computer. Now I have Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz (4 core) and 24 GB RAM. I run CFX transient simulations, generally these are complex, with hundred thousands of nodes and tens of thousands timesteps, so the simulations lasts for several days (in the better case). Do you know, which parameter of the computer should be increased to speed up the simulations? Does the running time of the simulations depend on the number of cores, the RAM, or something else? Can you suggest any commercial PC which would be the best for this type of simulations? (ansys CFX transient) I would be very grateful for the help, I don’t want to buy a computer that doesn’t meet my goals. Thank you, Henrietta |

Might want to try the hardware section for this question.
Budget will be needed to offer valid recommendations. Also the number of HPC licenses you have (how many cores can you run on?) Memory bandwidth is most important for simulation solve time. I'd go with AMD EPYC or latest Gen INTEL XEON with 8 memory channels. Dual CPU if it is in your budget. See the Hardware section for more information on specific CPU models. A fast NVME SSD will help post process transient simulations if making transient animations or plots. |

Thank you, your answer was very useful, I will look around in the hardware section!
