characteristics curve generation with opening type boundary?

I have a basic question. I am running a simulation for a compressor. There was flow recirculation at the volute outlet as suggested I used an opening-type boundary with opening pressure and temperature. Opening pressure condition has static pressure outflow and total pressure in flow. So if I want to generate a performance map, we usually do it by gradually varying the static pressure at the exit. So is it the same with opening type boundary too? Can we decrease the opening pressure to generate the curve? (I do know the best practice is to extrude the domain at the outlet to not involve an opening type boundary but I just wanted to know if the above method with the opening I described is also correct or not)

Though I am not addressing your specific question, may I ask why you are using a pressure boundary at the outlet when you could use an Exit Corrected Mass Flow boundary instead?
With pressure boundaries, you can into trouble quickly depending on how smooth your compressor performance curve is.

I don't think there's an option to give mass flows as boundary condition for an opening type boundary. There's opening pressure, static pressure, entrainment etc

For a mass flow exit condition, you will never have artificial walls; therefore, never a need for an opening --> OUTLET

Oh I didn't know this, thanks for this info. But the exit corrected mass flow boundary can only be used for ideal gases (My case is for a real gas).

I understand the use case for real gas is a beta feature. Hopefully, you will get a message in the output file.
