Hello,

I am working on simulation of RCCI engine. In which E85(Ethanol 85%and 15%Gasoline) as primery fuel(port injection) and diesel as secondary fuel.

So in converge software I needs therm.dat gas.dat mech.dat files.

Thank you

Hi Sanket,

maybe look here for suited reaction mechanisms:

https://www.erc.wisc.edu/chemicalreaction.php
https://combustion.llnl.gov/mechanisms

This reaction files are for perticular fuel. But in my case combined combustion of ethanol and diesel will occure. So which files should i use?

Sanket31594,

I think this published paper could help.
http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...952?via%3Dihub

You could request the mech.dat and therm.dat through the author.

On gas.dat, you could use air which is default in Studio.

Or can I use merged file of ethanol, iso-octane and n-haptane?

These files are the same as the ones in the SI8_engine_premix_E85 example case of v2.4 so they are already included in Studio?

I have attached files.
can I use this files for my case?

please check and tell me. I am too much confused about this.

Or should I use files of SI8_engine_premix_E85 example case of v2.4?
Attached Files
File Type: zip Reduced_PRF_mechanism (1).zip (19.4 KB, 28 views)

Sanket,

Yes. The files in SI8_engine_premix_E85 should be used for this RCCI engine case.
The attached mechanism should not be used as it does not include ethanol.

p.s.
1) find SI8_engine_premix_E85 by
File->Load example case->Internal_Combustion_Engines->Gasoline_spark_ignition_PFI->SI8_engine_premix_E85

2) To determine which mechanism to use, I usually check mech.dat first to see what SPECIES are included; after that I will read the published paper on the particular mechanism to check what was the fuel in use. I hope it could help.

I have run the case but in output combustion is not taking place. Pressure rise is due to piston motion only.So where will be the problem? This Reaction files are valid for this case?

Thank you

Hi Sanket,

Could you send your case setup (*.in, and *.dat) to support@convergecfd.com?
Thanks!

Hello

Have you check that case setup?
Is there any error?

The merger of the two mechanisms into one can be used as a mechanism for the mixture

Hi,

here are some thoughs:
  • what is your lambda?
  • ignition should be initialized with Diesel injection?
  • when do you activate SAGE?
  • what is your pressure and temperature at TDC (when combustion is missing)?
  • do you have a change in species concentrations?
  • is HRR of thermo.out completely zero or is there a weak reaction?
  • do you have experimental data?
