Hi all,

Does anyone develop ignition model using UDF by Converge?
Could you please share the example how to write code coupled with Converge.

Hi all,

Currently, I simulated the SI engine fueled with natural gas/hydrogen blends. Generally, the GRI 3.0 is widely used in the natural gas engine in modelling community. however, we want to investigate the performance, combustion and emission of the SI engine fueled with natural gas/hydrogen blends. Can we only use the GRI 3.0 mechanism to mimic the natural gas/hydrogen blends? Or need to combine the hydrogen mechanism and the natural gas mechanism?

Hi Jiren,

I did a quick google search and came across this one: https://www.cerfacs.fr/cantera/mechanisms/hydro.php

This detailed H2 mechanism with 57 species and 268 reactions seems to have CH4 chemistry as well. However, you'd want to see if this mechanism can give similar LFS for CH4 as GRI-3.0. If this is the case, then you can use this for CH4/H2 combustion.

However, without measured data to validate the CH4/H2 combustion, we should not conclude that this mechanism is working correctly for your application.

Not clearly in mind now. But I want to consider the turbulent flow and turbulent intensity, the air,fuel and residual gas, temperature and pressure vicinity of the spark plug. First, I need to know how to build a simple UDF model and then consider a complex model. Thus, do Converge offer some standard process or materials to develop the model.

There's no single UDF source file that can be used to implement a spark ignition model. People use CONVERGE's energy source UDFs to implement new spark ignition models. Some of the v2.4 files you can look at are "user_move_sources.c" and "user_source.c".

Look for the below publication from ANL that will be published at ASME2018 later this year which talks about the development of a spark ignition model implemented into CONVERGE using energy sources (via UDFs)

Thank you very much! I have download the reduced mechanism. however, I found there is C atom participating in reaction. I think there should be H and O atom only in the reaction.
