Hello,

I am simulating a heterogeneous reaction in a traveling grate (can be regarded as a packed bed), which infers the calculation of Reynolds number.

Please help me to choose a correct formula from the followings (found from the literatures or Internet).

Re1=Dp*U*rho/Mu

Re2=Dp*U*rho/(Mu*porosity_bed)

Re3=Dp*U*rho/(Mu*(1-porosity_bed))

Where Dp is the partical diameter, Mu is the Fluid viscosity, rho is fluid density.

Question:
1. Which one is the most appropriate,
2. U use superfical velocity or physical velocity.

Please help me. Thanks in advance

Re1 equation is the original Reynolds Number equation used to calculate a "free" flow. Unlike flows constricted such as in your case.
You can use this equation: https://neutrium.net/fluid-flow/pack...ynolds-number/
which is Re3 for you, with U being superficial velocity.

Dear Nawaf_Ar,
Thank you very much.The link you gave is very useful.
But unfortunately, it is still unclear where this formula originates from.
