Gambit Boundary Layers

Hi, I have a question regarding Gambit Meshing strategy. I handle complex geometry with small gaps (valves with small spool-openings) for turbulent / incompressible flows. I always divide my models for controlling my final mesh. ( I try my maximum to mesh with hexaedre for better quality). But I never achieved embedding a Boundary Layer, because I don't have any continuity in the boundary layer, because of my models which are divided in "elementary volumes". So I am facing of 2 kinds of mesh strategy: Either I continue to mesh with dividing my geometries with high quality (skewness <0.8), but without Boundary Layer (Y+ always less than 30) Either I try to mesh my models with Boundary Layers (Y+ # 1), but with tetraedres, eg: poor mesh quality. What are you opinions? Maxime

Hi, my question is simple.what means communicate: "Skipped smoothing boundary layer (and there name of line and face) since transition !=1:1".I doing 3D geometry and I have big problem with boundary layer in this geometry.in dialogue window is WARN. but I don't know whether in next step in Fluent not be a problem. Thanks for help

Well as I mentionned, I am not used to work with Boundary Layers. I better divide my volumes to control the mesh. So I can't help you, sorry... What kind of geometry are you meshing?

y+ larger than 30 is probably not that bad - should be valid in the Y+=60-90 range if you use wall functions for your turbulence models. Or try using the K-eps with enhanced wall functions enabled
