Good afternoon

I have a question, I am going to buy a new "work station", around €1000, and I have €200 in my budget for GPU.

I do not know if it is better to buy a Quadro P600 or GeForce GTX 1050Ti GPU, € 190 both.

Use ANSYS Fluent and Solidworks to create geometry. I have seen that ANSYS and SolidWorks do not recommend using GeForce, only Quadro at least.

What you think?
Thank you very much.

The age-old question, Quadro or Geforce...
First of all, a GTX 1050TI is a much faster Graphics card compared to a Quadro P600. And it even has twice the amount of VRAM. So it sems like an easy decision.
Until you look at the driver side. With some driver optimizations that are not included in the Geforce drivers, certain workloads in professional applications (e.g. shaded with edges) run much faster even on the puniest Quadro card. And there are certified driver versions for this kind of software exclusively for Quadros. Without them, you can get some display errors on rare occasion. And you won't get any support if this happens.
Plus in Solidworks "realview" Features are not available with Geforce cards. But it is possible to activate it with a Geforce card. Google knows how.

Then again, there are many people out there using Solidworks on Geforce cards and it works just fine. And from my experience, the same is true for Ansys software as long as you don't need GPU acceleration during simulations.
If I wanted a Quadro card in my personal workstation for peace of mind, I would rather buy a used one. M2000 or K4000 would both be better alternatives for a P600.

In short, it all boils to Reliability plus how the drivers are optimised one is gaming-centric and one is workstation centric. That is why OEM like Dell have separate product line with Quadro and system integrators customizability options as some applications vendors also recommends Geforce but again when explicitly it is mentioned that use Quadro then both these kinds of sellers offers Quadro.

All in all, use Quadro if explicitly suggested.
