Hi
I heard about InkScape from someone,is it proper for drawing some simple shapes for thesis text?or what do you use for such purposes?

I used Xfig, its good and can convert to what ever format you want.

I like inkscape. It took me a while to learn but now I can create some very sharp vector figures quite quickly.
